1.2.3 Browse Instruments
DrumX ships with 408 ready-to-play instruments — drawn from 10 legendary drum machines and a set of custom samples Jimmy Jam created for DrumX — organized into six browser categories: Jimmy Jam Kits, DX Kits, DX Layers, DX Stacks, DX Pitched, and DX All Kits. Each Jimmy Jam Kit additionally embeds one of 214 signature Jimmy Jam grooves spanning five genres, pre-loaded at its designated tempo.
Click the Browse Page button in the Navigation Bar to open the Browse page, where DrumX instruments can be browsed, auditioned, and loaded.
It’s useful to keep the Instrument Rack open while browsing for quick access to controls like volume and pan on loaded instruments — open it with the highlighted button in the Navigation Bar.
By default, the Browse page opens in Installed Mode, which organizes libraries in their original folder structure — find EW DrumX in the Installed Libraries column, then click one of the 6 main Instrument Categories (and any sub-categories) that appear in the middle columns. They include:
- Jimmy Jam Kits — 200+ groove-loaded drum kits across 5 genres.
- DX Kits — The 10 drum machine emulations as full kits, one per machine.
- DX Layers — One drum type on one pad, switchable between all 10 machines.
- DX Stacks — One drum type from all 10 machines spread across the pads for stacked hits.
- DX Pitched — A single drum sound mapped chromatically across 16 pads for melodic play.
- DX All Kits — All sounds from all 10 machines in one construction kit, plus a Custom variant featuring Jimmy Jam’s exclusive samples.
The Results List populates with instruments when a category (or sub-category) folder containing them is selected. Click once for an audio preview, and double-click to load — hold [option/alt] while double-clicking to add instead of replace.
Instruments can also be found using Search Mode — a tag-based alternative that filters across a range of attribute categories like Type, Style, Articulation, and Timbre.
