1.1.1 Main Features
Underneath the Scores is a deeply sampled library, with round robins up to nine takes deep, recorded releases, five mod-wheel dynamic layers and true legato. The sections below cover the instrument library, the main Scoring Engine features, the effects and mixing, and the options for customizing, saving, exporting and controller mapping.
A The Library
-
164 Instruments Across Five Categories: Orchestral (57) with multiple articulations per section, Synth (43) with cinematic and electronic sounds, Band (20) with authentic character, World (34) from the Middle East, Asia, South America and Europe, and Misc (10) including choir, trailer hits and percussion.
-
300+ Animated Scores: Composer-crafted multi-instrument arrangements that respond to your performance. Each Score fills all ten slots with its own arpeggiator patterns and dynamic ranges across four switchable sections, plus an Ending that stops the arrangement: over 1,200 distinct arrangements in all.
-
Sampled for Repetition: Round robins on the short articulations, up to nine takes deep, so a sixteenth-note line never machine-guns. Recorded releases on the sustains, five mod-wheel dynamic layers on the high strings, and true legato transitions on the Legato instruments.
B The Scoring Engine
-
10-Slot Dynamic Mixer: Sculpt your arrangement on the engine’s Shape tab. Every slot carries a volume fader with min and max handles tied to the mod wheel, plus mute, solo, octave, pan, reverb send, its own 3-band EQ and three insert effect slots. Swap any slot’s instrument from the Instrument Browser without losing the pattern.
-
Arpeggiator: Animate your arrangement on the engine’s Play tab. Fourteen note orders in all: twelve stepping patterns, All (Chord) to sound every held note together instead of stepping through them, and Custom for a sequence you program yourself. Note rates from 1/32 to 1/4 including triplets, nine note-selection modes, and per-step velocity ranges, all riding the mod wheel.
-
Score Browser: Browse 300+ Scores across 14 genres and 12 styles, filter by several tags at once, narrow by time signature, search by name, audition any Score with a single click, and star the ones you keep coming back to. The Ensemble category contains seven large multi-instruments, and an Empty Score is available to start from scratch.
-
Four Sections and an Ending: Intro, Main A, Main B and Outro, switched live from five keys on the keyboard. Each of the four carries its own patterns across all ten slots. The fifth key is the Ending, which holds no patterns and stops the arrangement instead of changing it. Copy and paste a section’s patterns across all ten slots at once.
-
Mod Wheel Dynamics: Sweep from intimate to epic with one controller. Per-slot min and max ranges decide which instruments arrive at which dynamic level, so strings can sit soft at the bottom while brass waits near the top.
-
Custom Sequences: Program exact pitch sequences step by step in the Pitch Matrix. On a pitched slot the rows are steps through the chord you are holding; on a drum kit they are the kit’s own sounds.
C Effects and Mixing
-
Global Reverb: Two engines, Convolution and Algorithmic, with 21 convolution spaces and 9 algorithmic presets to start from and a per-slot reverb send for placing each instrument at its own depth.
-
Per-Slot EQ and Envelope: Attack and Release controls and a 3-band parametric EQ with Low Cut and High Cut filters.
-
Insert FX Rack: Three insert slots per instrument with 21 effect types available across Filter, Dynamics, Distortion, Delay, Modulation and Reverb, each with its own bypass.
-
Five Time Signatures: 4/4, 3/4, 6/8, 5/8 or 7/8, with patterns one, two or four bars long and half-time, normal or double-time playback.
-
In Sync With the Opus Mixer: Volume, pan, reverb send and insert settings are shared between the engine and the Opus mixer, so a change in either appears in the other straight away. Both are stored in the Score, so mixing done on the Opus Mix page travels with the arrangement.
D Saving, Exporting and Mapping
-
User Scores: Save your arrangements, tag them by genre and style, and build a personal library of starting points that sits beside the factory Scores.
-
Single Instruments: Load any one of the 164 instruments on its own, outside the Scoring Engine, for conventional playing using the features that come standard in Opus.
-
Multitrack MIDI Export: Drag a finished performance out of the engine as a multitrack MIDI file, one track per slot, straight into your DAW.
-
Your Controller, Your Keyswitches: Assign the dynamics to any MIDI CC from a menu, or press MIDI Learn and move the controller you want to use. Move the five section keyswitches down an octave when you need that register to play.
